We are delighted to be associated with this exciting original version of one of Charles Dickens' most popular stories, which has been given a wonderful new lease of life through the 17 new songs composed by Laurie Hornsby, who also has written the adaptation.
The story of young Pip's life with its many twists and turns and up's and down's is presented in Platform Style as if a troupe of touring Victorian actors have set up their temporary stage.
The Actor/Manager takes the role of Narrator and appears as the solicitor 'Jaggers', very much in the vein of a Music Hall 'Chairman' and the other 6 versatile actors assume the other roles.
The actors are accompanied by live musicians playing the songs which move the action along from the choral Opening describing the awful prison ships on the estuary 'The 'Ulks', through love songs, songs of betrayal, comedy and point and patter songs, right up to the uplifting and triumphant finale: 'Tear Down The Curtains' - all the songs fit their characters and mood perfectly.
This presentation will tell Dickens story with clarity and the songs all have that 'something special' about them, and are sure to have the audience humming as they exit!
The production is due to have its premiere for the Broadstairs Lit.Fest. on 19th/20th May 2018, and will then be available for performances elsewhere. 'Great Expectations' will offer an interesting and original quality presentation to this Dickens classic, and we feel therefore, it will be an attractive contribution to your theatre or festival programme for 2018 and beyond.
